BIO
My childhood was spent on Sakhalin Island, Russia. It is still an
untamed place, spectacular in its rugged beauty. Since then art and
nature has always been an integral part of my life. After making my
home in the greater Chicago area over a decade ago, I was able to
pursue my education and my interest in art. And while I find
inspiration everywhere, nature has remained a constant cause of awe
and delight.
STATEMENT
My recent work is informed by the dual purpose of stepping away from
the familiar and desiring to find it again, in however unlikely a
form or abstraction. Organic circular forms recall cells, organisms,
rocks, fruits, and plants. Yet, there is nothing to suggest an
object. Intent is placed on color, movement, and texture.
Relationships between drawing and painting are explored in a search
for balance between the controlled and the unpredictable.
